Every coffee tells a story. Our premier shipment was more than just the arrival of green coffee, it marked the beginning of Dawn Coffee Curators' mission to introduce a new perspective on Indonesian specialty coffee to the UK.

For our inaugural release, we partnered with Reza Nurullah of JB Coffee, a producer based in Temanggung, Central Java, whose relentless pursuit of quality and innovation has made him one of the country's most exciting coffee producers. Rather than selecting just a handful of coffees, we chose to present his work in its entirety, importing 10 individual microlots that showcase both the diversity of Central Java and the possibilities of modern Indonesian coffee processing.

One Producer, Ten Distinct Expressions

The collection was carefully curated to demonstrate how origin, cultivar, and fermentation can shape remarkably different cup profiles while remaining true to the same terroir.

The shipment featured both Arabica and Liberica, highlighting not only traditional varieties but also experimental processing techniques that have become JB Coffee's signature. From elegant washed profiles to expressive honey processes, mossto fermentations, and competition-level Liberica lots, each coffee offered a different interpretation of Central Java.

Among the lineup were:

  • Prau Black Honey Triple Yeast

  • Best of Prau (BOP) Washed Triple Yeast

  • Sindoro Honey Mossto

  • Prau Hybrid Washed

  • Liberica Single Ferment Competition Lot

  • Liberica Double Ferment Competition Lot

  • Liberica Mossto Natural Competition Lot

  • Liberica Flower Blossom

  • Liberica Purple Honey

  • Liberica & Yellow Bourbon Hybrid Species

Together, these coffees represented years of experimentation in controlled fermentation.

Redefining Indonesian Coffee

For decades, Indonesian coffee has largely been associated with bold body and earthy characteristics. While those profiles remain an important part of the country's coffee heritage, today's producers are expanding that narrative.

Reza Nurullah's work demonstrates how processing can reveal remarkable clarity, floral aromatics, vibrant acidity, and layered sweetness without losing the origin's identity. His coffees challenge long-standing expectations and highlight how Indonesian producers are embracing innovation.

One of the defining features of this shipment was the inclusion of several Liberica microlots. These coffees have gained recognition on competition stages and continue to reshape perceptions of the species. Rather than treating Liberica as a novelty, these lots showcased its potential as a premium specialty coffee capable of complexity, elegance, and exceptional sensory quality.

An Incredible Reception

The response from the specialty coffee community has exceeded our expectations.

Since arriving in May, the collection has found its way into roasteries, cafés, cupping tables, and brewing competitions across the UK. Within just two months, eight of the ten microlots had completely sold out, a testament not only to the quality of the coffees but also to the growing curiosity surrounding Indonesian specialty coffee.

Today, only two lots remain available:

  • Sindoro Mossto Honey

  • Liberica Flower Blossom

Both coffees perfectly capture our vision of what Central Java can achieve: vibrant, floral, expressive, and unmistakably distinctive.

Looking Ahead

This premier shipment represents only the beginning of Dawn Coffee Curators' journey. Our goal has never been simply to import green coffee; it is to build lasting relationships between producers and roasters, creating opportunities for coffees with exceptional stories to reach a wider audience.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who cupped, roasted, brewed, and shared these coffees. Your support enables producers like Reza Nurullah to continue investing in experimentation, quality, and innovation at origin.

As we prepare future arrivals, this first shipment will always remain a milestone, proof that exceptional Indonesian coffee deserves a place among the world's finest specialty offerings.
